St Peters Church, North Barningham is situated in a fairly remote position on the Matlaske to Beckham road. It is no longer used for regular worship and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust who maintain it for the benefit of future generations. It remains a consecrated building, and there is a yearly patronal festival service held in June. The Palgrave family, whose monuments are in the church, became Lords of the Manor in the 15th century, living in North Barningham Hall. Richard Palgrave died without issue in 1732 and the association with that branch of the family ended. Today, however, through The Palgrave Society, links with the family are once again strong, and volunteers from the Society help maintain the church.

Among many special features, the church has a unique wheel cross design in the nave floor. Exactly why this is where it is has puzzled historians for over a century. It has been suggested that it dates from 1472.

Above all, the church is still a place to sit and quietly reflect, regardless of belief. It is a building which repays you for your visit with a sense of peace and tranquility. Please visit...
